FAQ

1. What areas do you serve?

We serve Grand Rapids and the surrounding areas, mostly Kent County. We are a service-area business, so there is no shop for you to visit — we come to you. Call or text 616-243-1914.

2. Are you available 24 hours a day?

Yes. We offer 24-hour service, 7 days a week. Call or text 616-243-1914 any time.

3. How much does a service call cost?

A basic service call is $180. That is the service call and diagnosis fee (not including parts). It includes the first hour, including travel to your location, plus any minor repair that does not require parts and can be completed in 15 minutes or less.

Any repairs over and above the $180 minimum service call are quoted on a flat-rate pricing structure — parts and labor quoted as a total repair price. We do not charge by the hour and there is no hourly rate. All jobs are quoted by standard, fair flat-rate pricing.

4. How much is a Grand Rapids City Compliance Inspection (MSI)?

The MSI (Mechanical Safety Inspection, also called the Grand Rapids City Compliance Inspection) is $180, which includes up to 2 appliances in the same building. A duplex with 4 appliances is $220. For a rental unit with more than 4 appliances, please call or text 616-243-1914 for a special discount.

5. What should I check before I call?

A few simple checks often explain the problem, and they help us help you faster:

  • Thermostat: is it set to Heat (or Cool), set to a temperature that should call for heating/cooling, and does it have power/batteries?
  • Filter: is it dirty or clogged? A clogged filter restricts airflow.
  • Breaker: has the furnace or air conditioner breaker tripped?
  • Vents and returns: are supply vents and return grilles open and not blocked by furniture or rugs?

If you have checked these and the system still is not working, call or text 616-243-1914. Do not open up the furnace or touch gas or electrical parts — that work is for a technician.

6. My furnace is not producing heat. What should I do?

Check the items in question 5 first (thermostat, filter, breaker, vents). If there is still no heat, especially in cold weather, call or text 616-243-1914 right away — no heat in winter is treated as urgent.

7. How often should I have my furnace or air conditioner maintained?

Once a year for each system is a good rule: furnace maintenance in the fall, before heating season, and air conditioner maintenance in the spring, before cooling season. Regular maintenance catches small problems before they become no-heat or no-cool calls.

8. How long does a furnace last, and when should it be replaced instead of repaired?

Most furnaces last about 18–20 years on average, give or take, with regular maintenance. As a furnace gets older, repairs get more frequent and parts can be harder to find. If your furnace is older, needs frequent repairs, or a repair would cost a large share of a replacement, we will give you an honest flat-rate quote for both options so you can decide. There is no pressure — the quote comes before the work.

9. What should I do if I smell gas or my carbon monoxide alarm goes off?

Get out of the building immediately and call 911 or your gas emergency line from outside. Do not re-enter, do not try to find the source, and do not troubleshoot the furnace first. This is a safety rule with no exceptions.

Test your carbon monoxide detector monthly, and replace detectors as the manufacturer directs. If several people in the home feel headache, dizziness, nausea, tiredness, or confusion at the same time, treat it as an emergency: get out and call for help.

10. Do you service boilers?

No. We do not service boilers. We service furnaces, air conditioners, thermostats, water heaters, inspections, maintenance, and replacements.

11. Do you service and replace water heaters?

Yes — water heater service and water heater replacement are both services we offer.

12. How do I book a visit?

Call or text 616-243-1914, or use the form on our Contact page. Service arrangements are made by phone or text — we do not promise arrival times or bookings through the website chatbot. We will confirm your visit by phone or text.

13. Do you install new furnaces and air conditioners?

Yes — furnace installation and replacement, and air conditioning installation and replacement, are services we offer. Every installation is quoted flat-rate before the work begins.

14. What is the book on your Book page?

“High Efficiency Gas Furnace Fixes: No Technician Needed!” by Robert Enochs is a plain-language guide to 90%–96% condensing gas furnaces. It is available on Amazon in Kindle, hardcover, and paperback. The book is education — it does not replace calling a technician for gas or electrical work.
