A-1 Heating & Air Conditioning performs the Grand Rapids Mechanical Safety Inspection (MSI), also called a City Compliance Inspection, for homes in the Grand Rapids area. An MSI inspection checks that your heating and water-heating equipment meets city safety requirements, and the inspection report is filed with the city. Also known as: You may also hear this called city stickers, a Grand Rapids rental property inspection, a Grand Rapids Mechanical Inspection, a Rental Property Certification, or a Michigan Safety Inspection — these all refer to the same Grand Rapids Mechanical Safety Inspection (MSI).

Schedule an MSI inspection
Pick your inspection level and a time below, then pay to confirm it. Level One (up to 2 appliances in the same building) is $180. Level Two (up to 4 appliances) is $280. Level Three (up to 8 appliances) is $450. The inspection report is filed with the city. Boilers are inspection only — A-1 does not repair boilers. There is no card fee on these amounts.
Your time is held for 60 minutes while you complete payment. If payment is not made within 60 minutes, the hold expires, the time opens up again, and you can come back and try to book again.
Appointments are Monday to Friday at 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, or 1:00 PM Eastern, and must be booked at least 24 hours ahead. One booking per time slot.

Need to cancel or reschedule before we come out? Call or text (616) 243-1914. Cancel at least 3 hours before your appointment for a full refund. Cancel inside the 3-hour window and there is a $25 cancellation fee, so your refund is your inspection price minus $25.
If your appointment is already paid and we drive out and you do not answer the phone or the door, you can still reschedule, but the time spent on the first trip comes off your hour.
Please note, jobs scheduled without a payment may not get confirmed for the time slot you choose. To confirm the day and time, be sure to follow through with payment after this form is submitted (you’ll be directed to the online payment processor after submission).
