What’s your AC doing? Tap your symptom
Start with the easy — and free — checks in each panel. If a quick check doesn’t bring your system back, the details tell you what we’ll do about it when we arrive.
Runs, but won’t cool
What’s it most likely to be? Thermostat setting, clogged filter, blocked outdoor coil — or the system just can’t keep up in high heat.
- Check your thermostat: cools mode, thermostat lower than room temperature.
- Check your filter: clogged or blocked; replace with a fresh one.
- Check your outdoor unit: if it’s choked with grass, leaves, or debris, wait for a proper cleaning.
- Check your indoor vents: open and unobstructed.
What we do next: If the system still won’t cool, book a $180 service call. We diagnose and quote your repair before starting work.
Won’t turn on at all
What’s it most likely to be? Thermostat issue, tripped breaker, a tripped float switch, or a dead blower.
- Check your thermostat: cools mode, temperature set lower than room temperature, batteries if it uses them.
- Check your breaker panel: tripped breaker to the AC unit or air handler.
- Check the disconnect box by the outdoor unit: is it switched off?
- Check the float switch: if the drain pan is full, that can shut the system off to prevent water damage.
What we do next: If it checks out and the system still won’t start, call us. Don’t open panels or probe wires yourself.
Blowing warm air
What’s it most likely to be? Thermostat fan set to ON instead of Auto, a dirty filter, or ice on the outdoor lines.
- Check the thermostat: fan set to Auto, not On.
- Check the outdoor fan is running and nothing blocks its airflow.
- Check for ice on the lines or coil: shut the system off and let it thaw before running it again.
What we do next: If the air stays warm, book a $180 service call — low refrigerant or a failing compressor are jobs for a tech.
Strange noises
What’s it most likely to be? Grinding, squealing, or loud buzzing usually points to a motor, belt, or electrical component failing.
- Take a note of what the noise sounds like and where it’s coming from — inside or outside.
- Listen for whether it happens on start-up, while running, or when it cycles off.
What we do next: If the sound is grinding or loud, shut it down and call us. Icing over, a failing fan motor, or a low refrigerant charge are common causes.
Turns on and off constantly
What’s it most likely to be? Short-cycling — often a clogged filter, a blocked return vent, or low refrigerant.
- Check your filter: replace it if it’s clogged.
- Check that return vents are open and unobstructed.
- Check the outdoor unit for ice on the lines.
What we do next: Don’t ignore short cycling — it stresses the compressor. Book a $180 service call and we’ll find the cause.
Water leak or frozen coil
What’s it most likely to be? A clogged condensate drain, a cracked drain pan, or a frozen evaporator coil.
- If you see ice on the outdoor unit or lines, shut the system off and let it thaw.
- If there’s water near the unit, shut it off and call us — water near electrical equipment is a safety issue.
What we do next: We clear the drain, fix the leak, and check the coil — then test the full cycle before we leave.
How a $180 service call works
Flat $180 for the first hour — travel and diagnosis included. If the repair needs parts or more time, we quote the full repair price before any work happens. No open-ended hourly bill, no parts installed without your OK.
Book or call
Pick a 9 AM, 11 AM or 1 PM visit in the form below, or call (616) 243-1914. Tell us the brand and model and what the system is doing.
We arrive & diagnose
We test the system properly — controls, airflow, refrigerant, electrical, drain — until we find the real cause, not a guess.
Flat-rate quote
If the fix needs parts or more time, you get one flat price for the whole repair — the $180 service call is included in that total, not on top of it. You approve the exact total first.
Repair & test
We repair, then run a full cooling cycle and walk you through what was done and how to keep it running.
AC problems we fix every week
No air blowing & no power
Fan doesn’t spin, or the blower is dead. Often a failed capacitor, motor, or control board — all fixable on the spot.
No cool air
Airflow but no cooling. Usually low refrigerant, a dirty coil, or a compressor on its way out. We test before we quote.
Intermittent cooling
Cool some days, warm others. Often an electrical fault, a sensor, or a refrigerant charge that’s drifting.
Turns on and off repeatedly
Short-cycling stresses the compressor. Filters, airflow, and refrigerant charge are the usual suspects.
Ice on the coils
Frozen evaporator coil or iced lines. Shut it off, let it thaw, and let us find the airflow or refrigerant cause.
Strange noises
Grinding, squealing, or loud buzzing. Note where it comes from and when — it usually points straight at the failing part.
Repair it — or replace it?
Our rule of thumb: if your AC is over 10 years old and the repair is a compressor, an evaporator coil, or a refrigerant leak, replacement usually saves money in the long run. Anything under 10 years old with a smaller repair is almost always worth fixing.
Repair — usually worth it
- Under 10 years old
- The failing part is simple & cheap
- The AC works fine otherwise
- One repair fixes it
Replace — think about it
- Over 10 years old
- Compressor, evaporator coil, or multi-part failure — or a refrigerant leak
- The system has needed multiple repairs
- Energy bills keep climbing
Age alone doesn’t decide it. We’ll give you an honest answer after the diagnosis — if replacement is the better call, we’ll say so and quote it separately.

Common questions about AC repair
What is covered in the first hour?
The $180 service call is $180 flat for the first hour — travel, a full inspection, and any minor no-parts repair that fits in that hour. If the repair needs parts or more time, you get the full quote upfront.
What if the repair costs more than $180?
You get one flat-rate total price — parts plus labor — before we start, and that total includes your $180 service call — it’s not added on top. If you decline the repair, you only owe the $180 service call.
My AC is blowing warm air — what do I check first?
Thermostat setting, a clogged filter, blocked vents, and the outdoor unit clear of weeds and leaves. If those check out and it still won’t cool, book a $180 service call.
